On February 27, the seventh and eighth graders at Fairfield Middle School participated in Jump Rope for Heart from 3:35 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the fifth and sixth grades participating in their physical education classes from February 4 to March 1. The students raised a grand total of $3207.94 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s number one and number four killers, respectively.

“We were so pleased with the success of this year’s event,” said organizers Nancy Diers and Jerrod Belzer. “We all had a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity and how they can play a role in saving lives.”

Today, some sixth to eighth grade boys and girls have volunteered to participate in a 3-on-3 round robin basketball tournament. This event is called Hoops for Heart. The student will again be fundraising and all money will be donated to the American Heart Association. Currently, Fairfield Middle School is the top middle school in the state of Iowa in donating money to the American Heart Association. The student and staff would like to thank the community and parents in their support of this project.
