Celebrate Indian culture with DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan Saturday

Celebrate Indian culture with the guardians of authentic traditional music and dance of more than seven generations. The DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan will mesmerize you with music, dance and fire eating and take you on a rapturous journey in a boisterous, colorful and joyful affirmation of Indian culture, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

Direct from Jaipur, India, DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan embark on a rapturous journey with love, peace and honor at the center of their lyrical message. Passionate and haunting, the group’s legendary stamina on stage combines sweeping scales and vocals, a traditional Gypsy Rajasthan dancer and stunts by the group’s resident fakir — blended together to create a truly unforgettable experience.

“DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan celebrates a variety of song, music and dance which derives from the seminomadic traveling musicians of Rajasthan who are the descendants of the traveling gypsies of the world today,” said Rustin Lippincott, director of the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. “This show crosses cultural lines through a vibrant and colorful look along with captivating sound which is an invitation into the mysterious world of traveling artists of Rajasthan tribes from the desert.”

The company has performed, most notably, at Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebration in London; for the honorable prime minister of India, Narendra Modi; for the president of France, François Hollande; and at the birthday party of Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. In 2016, the company won the Fryderyk, the Polish Grammy, for Best Roots Music Album with the record “Sun Celebration.” The group has performed more than 1,100 concerts in 95 countries, earning it the title of “The Cultural Ambassadors of Rajasthan.”

Tickets for DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan are $49 for Zone 1, $44 for Zone 2, $34 for Zone 3, $30 for Zone 4 and $15 for youth and students and available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center ticket office, 472-2787 or www.FairfieldACC.com.
