MENUS: Congregate meals; Fairfield school meals

Fairfield, Lockridge congregate meals

Congregate meals are served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Fairfield Community Center and at noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.

The menu for the coming week is:

Monday — roast beef, brown gravy, oven-browned potatoes, lima beans with corn, mandarin oranges.

Tuesday — cream of potato soup, saltine crackers, tuna salad sandwich, Tomato Spoon Salad, banana.

Wednesday — beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, Harvard beets, orange wedges, assorted yogurt.

Thursday — Brunswick stew, tomatoes and cucumbers, fresh apple, pineapple crisp.

Jan. 18 — potato-crusted fish fillet, lemon wedge, scalloped potatoes, crispy creamy spinach, apricot halves.

Each meal also includes wheat dinner roll or bread, unless another bread item is noted, margarine and skim milk.

Reservations for meals are required one day in advance. At the Fairfield site, reservations can be made either at the community center or by calling 472-4403. At the Lockridge site, reservations must be called in to 319-696-3450 by 6 p.m.

For people 60 years of age and older and their spouse of any age, there is a suggested contribution based on income range. Individuals younger than 60 pay the full meal charge as posted at the meal site.

Check at the meal sites for meal options, such as shelf-stable meals or frozen meals, to use on days when no meal is served at the center.

Bingo is scheduled to be played from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Fairfield Community Center.

Cards and other activities are planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.

Fairfield school meals

The Fairfield Community School District has announced the menu for the coming week.

Elementary schools:

Monday — breakfast: honey bun. Lunch: cheesy Trojan bread with marinara, corn, pears.

Tuesday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: burrito, green beans, salsa, peaches.

Wednesday — breakfast: cereal bar and string cheese. Lunch: chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, celery, homemade rolls, fresh fruit.

Thursday — breakfast: tornado. Lunch: lasagna roll-up with meat sauce, garlic toast, steamed broccoli, fresh fruit.

Friday — breakfast: long john. Lunch: hot dog on a bun, baked beans, carrot sticks, applesauce.

Milk, juice and fruit is served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. An alternate meal of a sack lunch is available by request in the school office daily.

Middle school:

Monday — breakfast: honey bun. Lunch: cheesy Trojan bread with marinara or cheese quesadilla pizza, corn, pears.

Tuesday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: burrito or nacho lil’ bites, green beans, peaches.

Wednesday — breakfast: cereal bar and string cheese. Lunch: chicken nuggets or country fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, fresh fruit.

Thursday — breakfast: tornado. Lunch: lasagna roll-up with meat sauce or macaroni and cheese, garlic toast, steamed broccoli, fresh fruit.

Friday — breakfast: long john. Lunch: hot dog on a bun or chili dog on a bun, baked beans, applesauce.

Milk, juice and fruit are served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. A fresh garden bar, with fresh fruits and vegetables, is served with lunch. An alternate meal of a sack lunch is available by request in the school office daily.

High school:

Monday — breakfast: long john. Lunch: cheese quesadilla pizza or chicken and cheese quesadilla pizza, honey-glazed carrots, raisels.

Tuesday — breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: cheesy Trojan bread with marinara or corn dog, green beans, rosy applesauce.

Wednesday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: totcho bar with choice of taco meat and cheese sauce or chicken and cheese sauce, Tater Tots, tortilla chips, peaches.

Thursday — breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: pork tenderloin or Italian chicken patty on bun, corn, mixed fruit.

Friday — breakfast: pancake on a stick. Lunch: orange chicken or General Tso chicken, rice, steamed broccoli, pears.

Milk, juice, fruit and a choice of mini doughnuts, Pop Tarts, breakfast bar or breakfast bread is served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. Offered daily for lunch is a choice of: fruit and yogurt parfait with granola, sub sandwich, specialty salad, nachos-to-go or Uncrustable PBJ. A fresh garden bar, with romaine salad with a choice of dressings, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit, is available for lunch.
