Cyclist injured in auto accident

A cyclist was taken by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after being struck by a vehicle Thursday in Fairfield.

Steven Timm, 79, of Australia (no city given), was traveling westbound on Burlington Avenue on his bicycle at 1:51 p.m. An accident report from the Iowa State Patrol indicated Timm was traveling to the right of the white line on the edge of the road.

A 2006 Cadillac driven by Ethan Daniel Ball, 27, of Cedar Rapids, was in the westbound lane when Timm entered the westbound lane. Ball moved toward the center turning lane to give Timm space. Timm turned left in front of Ball’s vehicle. The right front of Ball’s vehicle struck Timm.

The accident remains under investigation.
