HEDRICK – One person has died in a head-on collision that occurred Thursday morning near Hedrick.
Martin McComas, 49, of Woodburn, died in the accident. The driver of a second vehicle involved, Alexander Rebling, 27, of Brighton, suffered minor injuries.
The ISP’s crash report indicates that McComas was driving a 2001 Buick Century eastbound on Highway 149 near Highway 21 at 6:45 a.m. Thursday. McComas’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 2006 Dodge R15 driven by Rebling that was westbound on Highway 149.
The report states the vehicles collided in an “off-set head-on manner,” and that they came to rest on the highway. They were both towed from the scene.
McComas was transported by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he later died. Rebling was taken by private vehicle to the Jefferson County Health Center.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Jeremy Andreasen said weather is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident. It was assisted at the scene by Keokuk County EMS, Hedrick Fire and Rescue, and Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office.
