Cornerstone hosts second annual banquet

To the editor:

On March 10, Cornerstone Community Well hosted its second annual fundraising banquet. CCW exists to provide practical assistance and life skills training to Jefferson County residents who are in financial crisis.

It is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity Christian organization. This organization desires to help those, wanting help, to change their financial course and their future, by giving a hand up rather than a hand out.

CCW’s Board and volunteers thank Jefferson County Pork Producers, Sweet ‘N Saucy, Cookies From The Heart and Fairfield Flower & More for providing food and flowers for the banquet. A special thank you to our banquet guests and business table sponsors. Funding through the banquet totaled $12,936.00.

CCW is blessed to be supported by churches who see the benefit of uniting efforts for the greater good of Jefferson County residents. We are also blessed to be part of a community which, like us, provides options for individuals and families in our community who are in financial crisis. We do not provide duplicate services, but we do provide help!

The future needs of CCW include relocating to a zero-entry building where elderly, handicapped or injured applicants have no steps to negotiate. This will aid all who come for interviews, classes or to utilize computers for creating resumes or applying for jobs. Volunteers will be available to assist them.

Because most volunteers have day jobs, interviews can only take place two nights a week and must be scheduled, so another need is to hire a minimum day-time staff and allow for greater time to help people and increase community awareness.

Within a month or two, we will be reintroducing our “Got Dirt?” campaign to raise funds for classes. On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, we invite you to tour CCW and receive a pie for donations given that day. Come visit with volunteers, then share what you learned about CCW and a piece of pie with someone else!

If the work and goals of CCW stir you, please unite with us by volunteering, donating and/or offering your professional skills: electrical, plumbing, construction, etc. Donations and business cards may be mailed to CCW, 1208 S 5th St, Fairfield, IA 52556. To volunteer, please email ccw@lisco.com.
