Due for another April snowstorm

To the editor: I asked myself, “Was Wednesday (March 6) storm winter’s last blast?” Then I started thinking, and I should never have started thinking.

Twenty-three years ago, April 9, 1996, Fairfield got 18 inches of snow. That is the third worst snowstorm I have seen.

Twenty-three years before that on April 9, 1973, I lived in Macon, Missouri, and witnessed the worst snowstorm I have ever seen. We had a foot of snow with 40 mile-per-hour winds and drifts over 10 feet high.

Twenty-one years before that in 1952 when I was 5 years old, a storm dumped a bunch of snow on Fairfield. My mom took a picture of me with a lot of snow behind me (see photo).

My calculations say we are due for another nasty April snowstorm.
