The Fairfield Trojans undefeated and rarely-challenged girls’ tennis team advanced past Mt. Pleasant Monday evening after having the first-round of the state team playoffs delayed Saturday and moved to the M.U.M. rec center. The second-round was then completed at the original location, the middle school courts in Fairfield.
No. 1 Yana Gaskell swept Erin Zihlman 6-0, 6-0
No. 2 Anatta Charoenkul swept Hallie Sandeen 6-0, 6-0
No. 3 Nellie Higdon easily defeated Shaleen Thiengmany 6-2, 6-0
No. 4 Abby Schaefer handled her match with Breeana Runyon 6-4, 6-1
No. 5 Tess Paton collected a point against Sierra Barton by winning 6-0, 6-2
No. 6 Destiny Gridley won the first set 6-0 and was in a tiebreaker after losing the second set 3-6 when the match against Olivia Larson was stopped due to Fairfield winning a fifth meet point.
The Trojans will host the team regionals Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and the singles/doubles road to state will begin locally at the middle school courts Wednesday at 9 a.m.
