The Fairfield girls’ basketball team came from behind Friday night for a 51-47 victory at home versus Mt. Pleasant to improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC.
The visiting Panthers led 16-7 after one quarter of play, but the Trojans fought back to tie the game at 20 a piece at the half.
Fairfield out scored Mt. Pleasant 16-13 in the third to hold a three point advantage headed into the final eight minutes of play.
Fairfield led by two for most of the fourth and Mt. P’s Isabel Ashton thought she was able to draw contact for an opportunity at a three-point play in the final minute, however, Fairfield’s Destiny Gridley was able to stand her ground and earned a charge call that sent her to the foul-line where she iced the game with two points for the 51-47 final.

The Trojans traveled to Class 5A Waterloo West Saturday to take on the WaHawks.
The home team took a 15-10 advantage into the second period where they were able to pull away a bit, out scoring the Trojans 13-7 and holding a 28-17 lead at the half.
West led the offensive output again in the third quarter, out pacing Fairfield 20-10 before the Trojans were able to out score the WaHawks 14-10 in the fourth for the 58-41 final.

The Class 4A No. 9 ranked Trojans are now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC with a non-conference road trip to Ottumwa scheduled for Tuesday night.
